Barnes & Noble finally caught onto Seeing by Moonlight about a week after everyone else did. And I’ve created a GoodReads profile for the book, which led to an Author Profile for myself.

And while my understanding is that I’m not likely to see any sales data for at least another 5-6 weeks, I do know of at least a few more people who have bought it. Don’t know if anyone’s finished reading yet – but I have to remember the world I live in and how much time it affords to books.

In the meantime, I’ve done a few of the sensible things an author should do, and a few of the insensible things. I tracked down some magazines and blogs that review books like mine and queried them. I announced it in a few communities where I participate. I passed out a few promotional postcards to people in conversation. My partner and I are in ongoing conversations about marketing investment.

And I have spent a little too much time checking the Amazon page every other hour to watch the sales ranking number. Dwelling in the self-publishing basement, as we are and are likely to stay for awhile, means that a single sale can send the book rocketing tens of thousands of places up the charts; while a day without a sale can send it all the way back down again.

This is how it’s going to be for awhile. People need time to read. And I need to let the book find its way while I get to work on other writing.
